bit.ly -- At the end of July 2011, Stanford University announced that three introductory one-term undergraduate courses would be available free as online distance learning courses during the October to December 2011 term. Each course is taught be people who are leading figures in their fields, and in some case more-or-less the leading figures.

bit.ly -- Social Media Governance is a critical component of creating a social learning community. Effective policy is not about restricting and standing in the way of your employees and their expression, learning or performance. Effective Social Media Governance is about setting your employees and organization up for success. This type of policy guides the culture you want to establish in your organization. It also minimizes legal risk and therefore should be part of your strategy.

j.mp -- I was thrilled to be accepted to speak and asked to serve on a panel at my first DevLearn experience! Both sessions ended up with a packed house, and I was glad to receive lots of great questions and feedback. Since it was certainly a theme this year to share the learning beyond the conference itself, here are the things I’d like to share from each session for people who weren’t able to attend.

bit.ly -- This summer, Stanford University announced its plans to make three of its introductory computer science classes available for free to the general public. The classes — Machine Learning, Introduction to Databases, and Introduction to Artificial Intelligence — were to be taught by Stanford faculty and held online in conjunction with the regular on campus courses held during this October to December term.

bit.ly -- This year, we designed and developed a program for supplier managers, Googlers who partner with third parties to get work done. Studies show that once a partner signs a contract with Google there is significant value leakage in cost, quality, and ease. (See References at the end of this article for study citation.) Thoughtful performance management can help minimize this value leakage. We want to have positive, enjoyable partnerships with our suppliers while making sure they continue to deliver quality and value to Google. Effective supplier managers know how to measure performance, manage costs, mitigate risks, and ensure contract compliance as well as have positive supplier relationships.
